Mornings in Berlin

The best kind of mornings are those spent eating delicious brunches and drinking freshly brewed coffee whilst

exploring. Germany’s capital bursting with culture and coffee shops is the perfect place for a perfect morning.

Brunch is most definitely our favourite meal of the day.

Our perfect Sunday would be filled with endless plates of avocado toast followed by fluffy american pancakes and fresh fruit. We were pleasently surprised to find out that Berlin is packed full of brunch gems.

If you ever find yourself in the Mitte area of Berlin around mid-morning or even just fancy an afternoon of brunch, there is no better place than Distrikt Coffee. Tucked away down a side road near the war memorial, this brunch spot is a perfect place to refuel mid-morning or to start your day right. When we walked in, we instantly knew that this was going to be good. The walls are left as brick and geometric copper lights hang from the ceilings.

Inevitably, this gem is a very popular brunch spot and we did have to wait 20 minutes to be seated. Saying that, the delicious food and coffee at the end was so worth it. As seats at Distrikt Coffee are in such high demand, we got seated next to a young couple from Germany who were just finishing their meal. As Distrikt Coffee’s opening hours are 8:30am until 5pm daily, only breakfast, brunch are lunch are featured on the menu. Everything looked delicious, but I chose a superfood smoothie bowl with coconut, guji berries and chia seeds and it was lovely. Whilst tucking into our smoothie bowls we spied fluffy pancakes being ordered and we were soon craving them. Soon enough, we were busy tucking into a big plate of fluffy pancakes with cream, fruit and a strange addition of basil ontop. It worked and it was delicious. The freshly brewed coffee was a perfect addition to the meal and woke us up.

After wandering around the Mitte area after brunch and exploring the sites, we were in need of a good coffee. On the walk back to our hotel we discovered The Barn. Good things come in small packages and this little coffee shop is no exception. We had heard only positive things about The Barn and when we got our lattes, we were not disappointed. We definitely reccommend this little spot if you’re in need of caffeine or just a break! We were sat next to a big shelf full of their own fresh coffee in cute rustic paper bags. That’s what we love about coffee shops like The Barn, if you happen to fall in love with a shop that is miles away from your home, you can buy their own coffee and experience the magic in your front room.

After coffee, we wandered around Alexanderplatz being tourists and exploring landmarks such as the Berliner Dom and the Fernsehturm which is absolutley huge in real life! After the perfect morning of brunch, coffee and exploring in Berlin, we began wishing for it all over again.
