London is one of Britain’s most instagrammed city centres. Bursting full of culture and sights, it’s no wonder this city acts like a magnet to tourists: whether born and bred in the UK like us or from all over the world. This is why London can be overwhelming. Luckily for you, us at 1996 have the low-down on the best places to go to.
The first place we recommend you should definitely take a look at is Covent Garden. It’s fast becoming London’s beauty hub - with more and more make up stores such as KIKO MILANO, MAC, Charlotte Tilbury and Bobbi Brown joining their ranks. But it’s not all about beauty – this place is full of independent stores, street performers and amazing places to eat. It’s not surprising that it is so iconic.
To avoid the hustle and bustle of the crowds, we recommend going early in the morning. These couple extra hours mean that it certainly won’t be as busy and you don’t have to weave in and out of people to get to your destination. But either way, no weekend away in this wonderful city would be complete without checking this out.
In the opposite direction of the market, you will find The Tea House. The window is lit up, decorated with colourful teacups and teapots. As it is on a main street, it attracts a lot of attention. Even if you’re not a tea person you should definitely stop in, just to experience the aromatic smell of the herbal teas.
If you wander through the quirky little backstreets you will find Neal’s Yard. It is a charming hidden garden, which will take your breath away as you set your eyes on beautiful buildings which belong to unique indie shops. It’s a must see. As usual, it would be worthwhile to get some culture into your trip. A stop at Tate Modern is essential. Full of contemporary art and with some famous work such as Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali. You’ll be secretly fangirling about seeing these pieces in the flesh.
Lastly we recommend Shoreditch. Brick Lane is one of the most alternative places in London, if you visit on a Sunday you’ll get the chance to browse around vintage shops and markets with interesting stalls.
Shoreditch is a heaven for vintage lovers. If you’re lucky enough to catch a vintage fair, then you can quench your thirst for cute outfits by thrifting through antique clothing and items. And trust us – there’s a lot of them. All of this is, paired with street-art on every corner, really does give it an edgy vibe.
