If there was something that girls loved more than shopping that would be girls capturing their latest purchase. It is not a secret that we are living in the ‘SELFIE’ era but the young photographer, Lorna Katy Joy Quinn knew she wanted to be a professional photographer since she held her first camera at the age of 15. Lorna who is only 21 years old and grew up in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire expresses her endless imagination through her photographs and uses her individuality to create by what she describes as a ‘ non defined beauty’. Follow Lorna Quinn through her alternative fashion fairytale and get to know the person behind the lens.

So when did your passion for photography begin?

I was always interested in photography when I was growing up but I never had my own camera. When I was 15 I saved up and bought my first point and shoot. I took some awful pictures, but I fell in love with turning real-life in to art.

How would you describe your style?

My photography style is a type of surreal portraiture. A lot of my images focus on beauty, or what I perceive as beauty. I like to look at a scene and picture how I can make it more interesting.

What is your favourite photography accessory other than camera?

My tripod or my remote! When I first started taking pictures I didn't have either and I took a lot of self-portraits. This meant I’d have to balance my camera somewhere to take the picture, click the shutter and then I’d have 10 seconds to run to a position and try and get the picture in focus and at the right angle. One time I had a camera balanced on a ladder and it fell off and broke the lens, I got a tripod pretty quickly after that and it’s one of the best things I've ever bought!

Do you like having your pictures taken?

When I first started with photography I took a lot of self portraits. I didn't have a remote for my camera so I would have to extend a coat hanger and try and press the shutter whilst trying to stay in the right place to get my focus point. This meant it would take ages to get the right shot and I’d have to keep running back and forth to see what the picture would look like. Eventually I decided it would be easier if I just started shooting other people instead and I haven’t really looked back since. It’s not that I don’t like having my picture taken, I just prefer being the one taking the picture.

Exactly, what do you want to say with your photography and how do you get your photographs to do that?

My photography is personal to me or my client, I don’t create it to send a message to an audience, I take pictures because I enjoy doing it and I want to share beautiful things that I see and imagine. I don’t think art should be broken down in to ‘Why did you do this?’, ‘What does this mean?’. I think it should just be appreciated for what it is and interpreted personally by each individual.

What is your biggest inspiration? Where do you get your inspirations from?

My inspirations come from everywhere! I could read a magazine, browse Instagram, look at a window display, visit an art gallery, watch a perfume advert, listen to a song. It’s so hard to pin down inspiration because I think it’s a big mix of things I see and enjoy and admire. I’ll be sitting down and suddenly I’ll have an idea and I think ‘cool I’ll try that!’.

What is your favourite work you have done?

I think every new picture I take becomes my favourite for a short while. One picture that I've always loved is a picture of me laying down in a shed, trying out my smoke machine for the first time. It doesn't necessarily stand-out, and it’s one of my least edited images, but I was so happy when I saw the picture on the back of the camera.

What is your career goal , where do you want to see yourself in the future?

My career goal is just to always love the photos I am taking. I don’t mind who I am working for or where I am, just as long as I enjoy taking the images. In the future I’d love to have my own studio.
