It’s not just vintage clothing at Lou Lou’s Affordable Vintage Fair in Nottingham. Amongst the vintage dresses, teacups and valuable gems – you will find the Diamond Diva’s hair and beauty stall. We tried out getting our hair done ourselves, let’s just say Diamond Diva’s did not disappoint. As the stall was at the front, it was the first thing everyone saw. The hairstyle was victory rolls with the rest down and curled – it only took 15 minutes to do! 1996 spoke to Jasmine Upchurch while she was putting our hair into victory rolls
How long have you been doing hairdressing at the vintage fair?
I’ve just been doing it a few months; this is the first time I’ve been at a Nottingham vintage fair though. I helped out a colleague with a couple fairs last year so that’s what really got me into doing them.
Where did you learn to do these kinds of vintage hairstyles?
I got taught hairdressing at level two which gave me all the basics. Then I self-taught doing vintage hairstyles through YouTube and everything like that, they teach you so much with the tutorials. That’s where I got a lot of inspiration for doing the hairstyles.
What is your favourite hairstyle to do?
Victory Rolls are my favourite.
Why do you think pin-up and vintage beauty is so popular?
I’m not really sure – I think that everything that was in fashion in the past seems to be coming back again. I think these trends will constantly reoccur because they are quite classic.
Do you do vintage hairstyles outside of the fair?
Yes. At a lot of weddings, and people that do fancy dress often ask us to do them vintage hairstyles.
Which stall at Lou Lou’s Vintage Fair is your favourite?
I have to say it is the stall serving cakes and tea.
What’s your favourite item of vintage clothing?
The dresses. I absolutely love the dresses, they’re fantastic
